Thirsties Cloth Diaper Review & Giveaway!!!

So, I know I recently told ya that we're making the switch to cloth.  Thirsties was the first cloth diaper in our stash, was super easy to use, was great for a first time cloth diaper mama, and is currently one of our go-to brands.  Thirsties was generous enough to let me review one of their Duo Diapers in a Black Bird print as well as offer a Duo Diaper for a giveaway.

And they're serious.  When I first spoke to Jessica at Thirsties about a review and giveaway, she was extremely nice, cheerful, and warm (all this via email even).  She definitely made choosing Thirsties an easy choice (and how awesome is it that work at home moms actually make the diapers).  Oh and my husband is in love with the fact that they're 100% US made.

Anyway, onto the diaper itself.  Thirsties brand cloth diapers come in a couple of different styles and I was lucky enough to review a Thirsties Duo Diaper with Aplix (velcro) in size 2.  The outside of the diaper is very similar to the Thirstie Duo Cover, but the Duo Diaper actually has a pocket for the insert.  The insert is actually two separate pieces of fabric that snap together: a microfiber layer (to wick away moisture) and a hemp/cotton layer (to absorb the wetness).  And seriously, the hemp insert is soooo soft, it's unbelievable.  Oh and the best part, you don't even have to remove the insert before you wash (tell your husband this if he refuses to "touch poo").  Just toss it in and it'll remove itself in the wash.  Easy peasy.

We were able to test out the diaper during the day, during nap time, and over night.  We were even lucky enough to get a #1 and #2 during our trail as well.  The Duo Diaper was super absorbent and held an insane amount of urine (seriously, Thad's a heavy wetter).  The leg gussets (my favorite part) held everything without a hitch (very important during our #2 trial).  The only problem we faced was the night he wore it to bed -- but I'm not gonna blame the diaper, the hubs was the one to get him ready for bed and I'm not sure he put he pulled the Aplix tight enough or snapped up the crotch. ;)  Also, I do know that the more you wash the diapers the more absorbent they become.  Oh and we haven't had any problem since (like I said, I blame the hubs...lol).

Washing the Duo Diaper was very simple and if you're not sure how to wash cloth diapers (ummm, yeah, I totally didn't have a clue and actually forgot a rinse cycle the first time) Thirsties provides some easy to follow instructions in their catalog (you can request a copy here) or on their website.  

Now, all that being said.  I seriously love my Thirsties diaper.  I have another brand as well, but I really love the leg gussets on the Thirsties brand and that alone makes me reach for it over the other brand whenever it's clean.  If you're like me and have been on the fence about cloth diapering for awhile, making the switch with me or heck, even contemplating the switch - I highly recommend Thirsties Duo Diaper as an easy, go-to, starter cloth diaper.  It will seriously make you wonder why on earth you haven't switched sooner.
