34 Weeks 1 Day

How far along? 34 Weeks

How big is baby? According to BabyCenter --  Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which will help regulate her body temperature once she's born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. If you've been nervous about preterm labor, you'll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies.

Weight gain? Up 49 lbs. as of the last drs appt.  Not super excited about this, but oh well, it is what it is I guess.

Maternity clothes?  Yep.  Finally got a pair of jean shorts, although I'm not a huge fan of my legs right now, but it's too hot to care.

Stretchmarks?  Yep, not just on my sides any more.  (I'm really beginning to hate the bare belly pics.)  I just found some more in the last week.  Back of the knees anyone (yeah, seriously...knees?), tops of my thighs, and oh and the fabulous front of the stomach glob that just started last night.  I almost had a breakdown when I got out of the tub and saw them.  Not.cool.

Sleep?   I have found that in the last two days if I drink a 32 Gaterade sometime during the day I sleep better.  I'm not sure why.  Maybe I'm slightly dehydrated or missing nutrients.  I actually slept more than 1.5 hours at a time the last two nights.  Amazing.

Best moment this week?  Finishing up the baby shopping.  We used our completion code and got some stuff at the store and then order some of the things online.  They should be here soon!

Movement?  Yes and he is almost mean now.  Sometimes his movements are sooo strong they hurt!  I guess it's a good thing that he's growing strong, but holy cow!

Food cravings?  I want chocolate!  Although, we don't really have any in the house.  I can put chocolate syrup on some ice cream, or eat a Snickers ice cream bar (if we're being honest I could eat an entire box of these by myself, but I don't - 1 per day is enough), or a chocolate chip granola bar.  I think I might need to make some brownies again or something.

Gender? Boy!

Labor signs?  None - I'm not sure I'd even know what one was if it happened.  I haven't even had any Braxton Hicks.

Belly button in or out? Sllllooowwwlllyyy starting to pop out.  The top has started pushing it's way out - I guess it's just a matter of time before the rest of it does.  The hubs told me today that he heard somewhere that once it pops all the way out I'm done.  He said, "You know, like a turkey."  Lol, this cracked me up!  I'm sure he wasn't serious, but it was soooo funny the way he said it.

What I miss?  Wearing my wedding rings/bands.  I am tired of the looks I sometimes get....ugh, people.

What I am looking forward to?  Showing my parents the nursery this weekend (they're coming down for a bit tomorrow) and getting the baby stuff in the mail (I love getting packages)!

Weekly wisdom?  Umm...lotion doesn't prevent stretch marks - that's a fact.

Milestones? Less than 2 months left! (I really prefer to say less than 6 weeks.)

OB Check

So we had an OB check today, it was just the babe and me (as if I could go without him...lol) since the hubs had to watch the US play for the World Cup (oh and in case you're not a FIFA watcher, they won so they'll be moving on).  Anyway...everything is looking good.  Baby boy is still measuring big.  According to the dr my belly is measuring right at 36 weeks today (yep, and I'm only 34 as of tomorrow) so no surprise we've schedule an u/s for the next appointment to see how big he is.  The dr decided to make a guess...she says that when we go to measure him at the next appointment he'll measure at 7 lbs.  She's excited to see if she's right.  Now I did ask how accurate the u/s would be in regards to size and she said it's not foolproof, but it will give us an idea.  She said it could go a pound in either direction from the estimate.  Oh and she said as of next time we'll start doing exams and that I'll be seeing her every week.  I can't believe how close he is to being here!!!

As if to drive home that point, the hubs and I went to Target when I got home so that we could use our completion code and buy the rest of the stuff we needed off our registry.  We got the crib sheets and mattress (yes, we finally got a mattress), a couple blankets, and a baby care kit among some other things.  Just some odds and ends really.  We've actually done minimal shopping and buying for the boy so far.  We've had some good luck at the shower and with hand me downs from friends and family.  For example, the hubby has a buddy that is giving us a swing, his brother's girlfriend is giving us a bunch of clothes and a Boppy she only used a handful of times, we're getting a breast pump from his cousin (yes I know what the FDA says about sharing, but I'll be buying new tubing, etc. for it) - so overall, we've been given a lot.  I'm really thankful for all of it since the hubs is still laid off and his unemployment ran out from the state of IA and we've only recently had his NE unemployment kick in....but that's another post.

Overall, it's been a pretty good day, I'm super sleepy (rare these days) so I may try to take a nap if I can get comfy.  Stay tuned...I'll be posting weekly pics tomorrow or Friday and I'll be trying to update the photos of the boy's room soon!

Birthday Wish List

So my birthday is next Monday - the big 27, yikes!  That's a lot closer to 30 than it is to 20.  Oh well, it's all in how young you feel, right?  ;)  In honor of the big day I thought I'd post a birthday wish list.

1. A shower! Now let me clarify, I do bathe...lol.  However, when the hubs and I bought our house (built in 1920) a few years ago, our one "main" bathroom only had a jetted tub in it.  We always thought we'd get around to putting in a shower, but alas, it has yet to be done.  Now we do have a shower in our basement (not exactly finished basement), but I have no desire to shower in the basement only to walk through the entire house and trudge upstairs in order to get dressed after said shower.  Oh and at eight months pregnant, baths do feel good, but it sure is a pain the butt to get in and out of that tub!

2. A pedicure.  Oh what these swollen, puffy, cracked little feet wouldn't give for good pedicure.

3. A new purse.  What kind?  I'm not sure.  I've had the same purse for over a year and I'm really dying to get something new.  Yes, I could pull something out of the closet, but what fun is that when it's your birthday and you can get a new one?

4. A new bottle of perfume.  I'm out and using random bottles that I've had leftover.  The hubby picked out some great perfume in the first year we were dating (engaged) and I've worn it ever since. Love the stuff, but I'm out and our mall no longer has a PacSun, so I need to trek over to Omaha sometime to get it.

Well I'm sure there are other items that I would love (including many items for baby boy), but for now, these are the all about me birthday things that I'm wishing for.  (Oh and don't forget the cake and ice cream!)

33 Week Update

How far along? 33 Weeks

How big is baby? According to BabyCenter --  This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark. He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. (The pressure on the head during birth is so intense that many babies are born with a conehead-like appearance.) These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.

Weight gain? Up 42 lbs. as of the last drs appt.  Haven't checked the scale since.  I have no desire to step on that scale and see numbers up above 200.  Sorry, just don't want to do that to myself.  I guess we'll check the weight gain next week at the drs.

Maternity clothes? Yep and I'm living in tank tops.  I'm am sooo hot all the time.  I need to go get a pair of jean shorts or something for when I leave the house.   My one pair of jean capris are getting used and abused - they need a break.

Stretchmarks? On my love handles and appendectomy scar.  I found a couple on the back of my knees (gross!).  Now I'm paranoid about them.  I'm hoping they don't keep showing up.  Ugh.

Sleep?  I am a pregnant insomniac lately.  I can't go to sleep at night.  I suddenly have all this pent up energy and could stay awake all night.  It totally sucks.  When I finally get to sleep it's like 4 AM and then I end up sleeping until 11 just so I feel like I'm getting some rest.  Oh and it's not like it's a peaceful sleep, I'm up peeing every 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

Best moment this week?  Realizing that this boy will be here in 7 weeks (or less)!  That's nuts!!!

Movement? Getting stronger every day! :)

Food cravings? Milk!  I can't get enough of the stuff lately - and I normally hate milk!

Gender? Boy!

Labor signs?  None and let's keep it that way for a bit.

Belly button in or out? Still very, very flat.

What I miss? My ankles, clear skin (face and back), sleeping on my stomach - oh and tanning (I know, I know it's horrible, but I really don't tan a lot, just to get a little color and then I'm good - I thank my mom's Italian side for this).

What I am looking forward to?  Finishing up the baby shopping.

Weekly wisdom? Keep moving.  If you don't all this water retention will make you super stiff and sore.  Oh and a maternity belt can work wonders!

Milestones? Less than 7 weeks left!

33 Week Belly Pic

*Just to note, I added a majority of these belly pics in during the summer of 2012 (so I'd have a record and comparison for baby #2).  The later posts will have weekly updates, but the early photos will not.  I didn't start blogging until later in my pregnancy the first time around.

1 Year Anniversary! (posted late)

Sunday, May 30, was our 1 Year Anniversary!  Wow, how time flies.  Last year we had a beautiful wedding day and then made spur of the moment plans to fly to Vegas for our honeymoon.  A few months later we decided to try to start a family and the Monday before Thanksgiving we got our wish.  Now here we are celebrating our first anniversary together and planning for our new little arrival.  It's been a whirlwind of a year, full of ups and downs, but in the end, we have our love, our faith, and one another and I'm so thankful I have such a wonderful man to call my husband!

Hubs and I on our wedding day.

During our honeymoon in Vegas.

Our anniversary dinner.  Smoked cornish hens (with the hubs special marinade and seasoning), mashed potatoes, the hubs special fried potatoes, corn, cottage cheese, rolls, Kool-Aid, and cake!

Our anniversary cake.  Nope, we didn't save any of the original (we figured it'd go bad), so the hubs ordered us a small cake with the exact flavors and filling we had in our wedding cake.  He said he decided to put red roses on it since that's what you would get someone you love.  I love this cake!  Yummy!

And a pic of us on our anniversary.  Me with my pregnant face and body and the hubs with his stitches (yes, those wooden stairs can be dangerous).  Lol, how time flies!

31 Weeks

How far along? 31 Weeks

How big is baby? According to BabyCenter --  This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby's kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy.

Weight gain? Up 42 lbs. as of the last drs appt.  My mom gained 52 and 53 with my sister and I.  My sister gained 58 with her first kid and apparently my grandmother (mom's mom) and aunts have all gained between 50-60 lbs with their kids.  I guess I'm right on track for the family weight gain...ugh!

Maternity clothes? Yeppers and I have a $50 gift card to Motherhood that I earned from MyPoints (check out previous post if interested) so I'm excited to get a few more things.  I've been raiding the hubs drawer for t-shirts as all of mine are way too tight now.  I can squeeze into them, but they aren't super comfy.

Stretchmarks? On the love handles and now they've appeared on my appendectomy scar - weird.

Sleep?  Was getting a little better until I got up to pee every two hours last night.

Best moment this week?  Getting the baby boy's room completely painted.  Hubs is finishing the last coat of paint right now.  (I'll post before and after pics when it's done.)

Movement? Yep.  He is getting really strong and loves doing somersaults.  He gets the hiccups daily now and almost always has them on my rectum - weird!

Food cravings? Candy, but I'm really trying not to eat it.  I did have a small bag of Pretzel M&Ms today (and yes, they were delicious).  Still love onion rings, but my newest drink of choice is either blue Kool-Aid or Lipton Sweetened Tea.

Gender? Boy!

Labor signs?  None and let's keep it that way for a bit.

Belly button in or out? Very flat, very very flat.  It's looking quite odd.  Oh and the hubs noticed that I definitely have a line down my belly now.

What I miss? My ankles, clear skin (face and back), sleeping on my stomach - oh and tanning (I know, I know it's horrible, but I really don't tan a lot, just to get a little color and then I'm good - I thank my mom's Italian side for this).

What I am looking forward to?  Getting the baby's room all put together!  Cleaning the carpets next and then room set-up!

Weekly wisdom? Buy a good bra! (I'm doing this tomorrow and the "girls" can't wait!)

Milestones? Less than 10 weeks left!!!
